While Character Artist 3 is not necessary to enjoy this issue, it also contains the CA3 source files. So if you own the add-on, you can quickly create even more variations of the included heroes and monsters.

Have you seen Alyssa Faden's beautiful maps around the web? We are pretty sure you have and are glad to see her artwork in the Cartographer's Annual. She created a beautiful overland style for us, which you can use for your own maps with the November issue.

With more than 250 hand-crafted bitmap symbols, including Alyssa's signature clouds, 40 drawing tools and 16 new textures, the Alyssa Faden Overland style gives you everything you need for gorgeous maps of your own. Of course a 6-page mapping guide takes your through the steps of using the style.

A beautiful overland style by a new contributing artist: Glynn Seal of MonkeyBlood Design. We became aware of his beautiful Havenland set of symbols for overland maps, and luckily Glynn was more than willing to create a set for the Annual.

The Havenland style is a full overland style with beautiful textures, mountain, tree and structure symbols. The accompanying mapping guide takes you through creating a complete map using all the style's features.

We ran a map-making competition open to any fantasy cartographer's (amateur or professional) out there. The theme was doing a volcanic island. The winner - as judged by Mike Schley from a great number of very nice submissions - was Christian Stiehl who graciously allowed us to turn his artwork into a Cartographer's Annual issue.

Christian's beautiful overland style is well-suited to creating regional maps of forests and rolling mountains. We hope you find it as gorgeous as we do!

Introducing a new contributor: Steph Worthington. We dubbed the style she created "Worthington Historical" as it is derived of her map of Arthurian Kent and is well suited for creating overview maps of historical or quasi-historical places.

The overland style "Worthington Historical" contains a wide variety of new bitmap textures and drawing tools, as well as a catalog of new symbols. A full mapping guide takes you through the process of creating a map in this style, including how to use a real-world map as the basis.

A two-in-one package: the Dwarven Dungeon artwork by TJ Vandel (aka Schwarzkreuz) works as its own drawing style, but is also designed to function as an extension to Symbol Set 4 - Dungeons of Schley.

A quick installer package will add all the styles resources to the existing SS4 dungeon style. Almost 200 symbols and 30 bitmap textures with a unique dwarven theme give you a lot of extra options when mapping those underground fastnesses among the Dungeons of Schley!

Template Pack: Map Projections

A look at the scientific foundations of map-making. Map projections are the different methods of how to approach the cartographer's paradox: how to depict the spherical surface of earth on a flat piece of paper (or computer screen).

This template pack with a variety of templates for different map projections, and the accompanying mapping guide discusses what you have to consider when choosing one. We'll also take Fractal Terrains 3 into account and how its map projection feature can be used to leverage even more options for CC3.

Resources and an extensive tutorial for importing real-world vector data from the Natural Earth public domain repository into CC3 overland maps.

The included mapping guide takes you through the process of downloading, prepraring, converting and importing the data for use in CC3. It also goes into detail on how to apply different drawing styles to the imported maps and how continue working after the initial import.
