Catalog Overview

Character Artist includes utitlies to make it easy for you to manage, view and create symbol catalogs. We developed these utilities to make it easy for us to create Character Artist, and though you might like them, too.

In order to understand the Catalog utilities, you need to understand how symbols work. Symbols are defined in a hidden area of the drawing. Each reference in the drawing (visible symbol) looks at the defintion and repeats it, scaling and rotating if necessary. Click here to find out more about symbol references and defintions.

You can use the Catalog menu to:

·   Insert symbol defintions from another catalog or drawing into the current catalog.image\buttonarrow.gif

·   Export symbols from the current catalog into a new file, which contains thumbnail and names of the symbols in a convenient table.image\buttonarrow.gif

·   Reorder or rename entire symbol catalogs. You can do this by exporting the symbol defintion names into a text file, using a word processor to reorder or them, then reload them into the catalog.image\buttonarrow.gif

·   Edit entire symbol catalogs at once. You can do this by converting the invisible symbol defintions into visible entities, each stored on its own sheet. You can move quickly between symbols, editing them one at a time Click here to find out more about sheets. Find out about the Catalog menu sheets command on the tab above.
