Rename & Reorder

Click on the Symbols menu to access Rename and Reorder features.

This menu gives you a quick and easy way to rename or reorder all the symbol definitions in your catalog. You might want to add a symbol into the middle of a catalog. Perhaps, if you are creating a catalog based on an existing catalog, you might add an extra character in front of the names in the new catalog.

To rename or re-order all the symbols in a catalog:

1. Export your symbol names using Create symdef name file. This command takes all the symbol names in the current catalog and exports them into a text file. Just give the text file a name. The symbols are listed in the order they appear in the symbol catalog window.

2. Open the newly created file in a text editor such as Word. You can then use the text editor to either rename any symbols or re-order them. Make sure you save the file in plain text format.

Important: You can’t both re-order and rename the symbols in one go, or CC3 will not know to which symbols to apply the names.

3. If you have reordered the symbols, use Import reordered symdefs then select the list file. All the symbol defintions will be moved around to reflect your new order.

4.  If you have renamed any symbols, use Import renamed symdefs then select the list file. The symbol names you have changed in the file will be changed in the drawing.

Import reordered symdefs: SYMORDER

Import renamed symdefs: SYMRENAME
