Open Separate File

This is a text-only command.

Type the text equivalent at the command prompt

Use the OPEN SEPARATE FILE command if you already have at least one file open, and you wish to load one or more drawings.

CC3 displays the standard Load Drawing dialog box. Choose a file. CC3 now asks you for a "new window corner". Select two points to draw a box which defines a new drawing window. CC3 loads the separate file in the window. It can be resized at any time.

Files opened with the OPEN SEPARATE command cannot be made part of an overlay system. Only files loaded with OPEN OVERLAY or OPEN REF can share coordinate space.

Separate files are listed in the Multi-Drawing Control dialog with a "1" icon in the third checkbox column.

To close a separate file, you can use the Multi-Drawing Control dialog, select the desired file, and choose the Close file button. Or you can choose the Close icon image\ICN_Exit.gif on the drawing window’s Title bar.

How does OPEN SEPARATE differ from the regular OPEN command?

When a file is loaded using the regular OPEN command, the first drawing listed in the Multi-Drawing Control dialog is closed, along with any of its associated overlays and references. OPEN SEPARATE lets you load a drawing and keep the first drawing in memory.
