Picture

This is a text-only command. You can use Draw > Insert File to insert a picture into your drawing.

Type the text equivalent at the command prompt

Use the PICT text-only command to insert a bitmap image directly into your drawing. The image will appear in the rectangle you draw on the screen. Draw the box using either the mouse or numeric coordinates.

The current fill style has no bearing on the appearance of the inserted picture. However, the image entity does acquire the current drawing properties. This may be a factor when selecting entities by color, layer, fill style, etc.

If you intend to copy or move an .fcw drawing containing images, remember to also copy/move the .bmp files as well. You can minimize conflict by copying or moving the .bmp into the same folder as the drawing before you even insert it into the drawing. If a drawing is loaded and the .bmp image file does not exist or cannot be found, CC3 displays an empty box.

When you select this command, CC3 displays the standard File dialog box, allowing you to select the desired .bmp file. CC3 then displays the Picture Options dialog box.

To change the source image of a drawn box:

Use the EDIT command [Edit > Edit] and select the image. Select the entity on the boundary box.

To change the picture options of an existing image:

Use the EDIT command [Edit > Edit] and select the image. Select the entity on the boundary box.

To re-size the drawn box without changing the source image or its options:

Use the DYNAMIC EDIT command [Edit > Dynamic Edit] and select the box. You can then re-specify the 1st and 2nd box corners.

How to fit in rectangle

The following parameters determine how the image will fit into the "container" box you draw on the screen:

Stretch to fit (may distort)

The image will conform to aspect ratio of the rectangle you draw. For instance, a square image will appear stretched in one direction if you draw a rectangular window.

Align Top Left & Clip

The inserted image will retain its original size, and it will abut itself to the upper left corner. If the image is larger than the drawn box, it will clip to the right or bottom as needed. If the image is smaller than the drawn box, the blank area will opaquely fill with the background color.

Scale to Just Fit Inside

The image will scale itself to fit itself entirely within the drawn box, without clipping. The image will maintain its original aspect ratio, regardless of that of the drawn box. Any blank area in the box will appear transparent, and is only visible when Hide Picture Outline is off.

Tile to Fill & Clip

The image will maintain its original size and aspect ratio, and will repeat itself within the drawn box as to fill it. The "start" image aligns to the top left corner. Bottom and right border images will clip as needed.

Hide Picture Outline

Choose on to suppress display of the boundary box. If unchecked, the box will display in the current color and line style.

Problems inserting a picture

Due to variations between display cards and the software associated with them, a couple of problems can arise when using pictures:

The bitmap doesn’t display. Try changing the color depth of the bitmap to match your display. Try reducing resolution of the bitmap. Try chopping the bitmap up and inserting it as multiple pictures. Try zooming out.

The bitmap "shifts". This occurs if the manufacturer’s diaply card software does not support a certain bitmap operation properly (StretchBlt). Download the latest driver from your manufacturer’s web site. Failing that, choose a particular zoom level to work at then trace.
